Assimil Perfezionamento Inglese Book PDF: The Ultimate Course for Italian Speakers Who Want to Learn English Naturally and Effectively
speaking of the older course (over here in the states, if I'm reading you correctly), it seems like it's one of the few places to get hold of the older recordings and books. I did say that I'm not much of an Italian speaker, but even speaking with my limited understanding, I feel like it's rather heavy-handed on the French side. I couldn't get much out of the exercises. It's like they were written for people who "know" Italian, and not for actually learning it.

Thanks, I don't have any Assimil material on hand. I think the newer course was mainly designed to suit American students, and I suspect that the recordings don't exactly reflect the current standard of Italian, but probably the closest one can get to that standard, at the moment (as it was when they recorded it).
Ferdinando, I'm the one who bought the Adler book without listening to the audio recordings, from the bookstore that he mentioned. You are right: I could have gotten the audiobook for free on iTunes (which I didn't do because there were others available). They are quite good, by the way:. (I think that you meant the 1969 course when you said '1969').
The two online LingQ courses mentioned above, for which there are English translations, are quite good, and are also quite different from the Assimil method. But it seems to me that Assimil must have made some changes in the Latin classes when it repackaged the classes in its latest course. (Of course, there is no "standard" teaching method, but it may be that its methods were a major factor in the failure of Assimil in the late 1970s, while the Finns got along fine for so long.)
